When:
Friday, April 12, 2024 11:00am - 12:00pm
Where:
Social Sciences Tea Room (SSRB 201)
Speaker:
Coordinated by Lisa Rosen and Emily Coit, Co-Leaders of the CCTL Exploratory Teaching Group on Generative AI
Description:

In this meeting of the Teaching with AI Exploratory Teaching Group, Emily Coit (Assistant Instructional Professor, Department of English) and Hoyt Long (Professor of Japanese Literature and East Asian Languages and Civilizations) will offer presentations about their experiments in teaching with AI this year, focusing on examples from Humanities Core courses. Topics for discussion will include: What uses of AI support our objectives for student learning in courses that require close reading of primary texts? What uses might interfere with or undermine such learning? What role might AI tools play in pedagogical strategies that emphasize pleasure or play? How can we help students to use AI tools in ways that are active and critical rather than passive or disengaged? Although the presentations will focus on recent experiences within the Humanities Core, instructors from across disciplines are encouraged to attend.
