Robin joined the UChicago community and the Chicago Center for Teaching and Learning (CCTL) in September 2022. She is excited to serve as the Executive Director of the CCTL and to lead the Center through a new period of growth with the expansion of pedagogical programs and support for all scholars at UChicago to develop their teaching practice and their identity as scholar-teachers.
Robin has a diverse background in higher education with teaching, leadership, and educational development experience at a wide variety of institutions, from the community college to land grant and private research universities. Robin received her BA with highest honors in Sociology from the University of California at Davis and her MS and PhD in Development Sociology from Cornell University. She began her career in higher education teaching at the University of California at Davis and later received tenure at Gavilan College where she co-founded the Service-Learning Program and served as chair of the Department of Social Sciences. Robin was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Sociology at Rice University from 2012 through 2014 and joined Rice’s Center for Teaching Excellence as an Assistant Director shortly after it was founded in 2014. In 2019, Robin became the Director of Rice’s Center for Teaching Excellence and Associate Teaching Professor. Robin teaches courses on the sociology of gender, food, the environment, and globalization as well as graduate pedagogy courses.
