Applications Open - Colloquium on Evaluation of Teaching 2024-25

The Colloquium on the Evaluation of Teaching (CET) provides a venue for discussion and reflection on principles and practices for the formative and summative evaluation of teaching. Aimed at faculty and instructors who provide feedback on and evaluate teaching as part of their role at the University, this program facilitates the sharing of approaches and experiences from across the University, informed by practices and frameworks from current literature on teaching and learning. Participants will convene over two days on May 29 and 30 to discuss how to think about teaching excellence, approaches to gathering and interpreting evidence of teaching effectiveness, and how to communicate feedback. Over the 2024-25 academic year, we will gather for a series of check-in discussions to share updates and lessons learned as new and revised evaluation strategies are put into practice. As a result of the program, participants will be supported in developing and sharing local, meaningful, and evidence-informed practices for evaluating teaching effectiveness, and applying these in their own units.

The CET is facilitated by staff of the Chicago Center for Teaching and Learning (CCTL) and two Senior Instructional Professors and will also draw on the insights and experiences of participants. To foster an engaged pedagogical community, colloquium members are expected to be active, collegial participants throughout the following activities:

  • Two-Day Colloquium: May 29 & 30, 9:00AM - 3:30PM (breakfast & lunch provided)
  • Check-In Discussion 1:  October 4, 2:00PM - 3:00PM (refreshments provided)
  • Check-In Discussion 2: December 11, 12:00PM - 1:00PM (lunch provided)
  • Check-In Discussion 3: March 12, 12:00PM - 1:00PM (lunch provided).

Those who successfully complete the program will receive $500 in compensation in recognition of their efforts.
