This spring, the CCTL hosted its third annual Spring Pedagogy Symposium. This year’s featured speaker was Tricia Bertram Gallant, Director of the Academic Integrity Office & Triton Testing Center at the University of California, San Diego and co-author of The Opposite of Cheating: Teaching for Integrity in the Age of AI (2026).
The focus of this year's symposium explored the ways in which Generative AI tools have disrupted the typical ways of facilitating and validating learning in the college classroom. Dr. Bertram Gallant reviewed in her talk the most critical changes that universities should consider in order to maintain academic integrity and relevance in the age of AI. The talk was followed by a practice-oriented workshop in which faculty and instructors considered which causes of cognitive offloading are most salient in their courses and developed strategies for motivating student learning and mitigating academic dishonesty. The event was open to faculty, staff, and graduate students from all disciplines.
The symposium closed with an undergraduate-facing event in which Dr. Bertram Gallant, a panel of undergraduate students, and undergraduate audience members discussed their perspectives on the intersection of AI, learning, and academic integrity.
