The Chicago Center for Teaching, in partnership with academic departments and other organizations on campus, offers a number of opportunities for pedagogical training and professional development. Each quarter, graduate students and postdocs may enroll in the CCT’s “Course Design and College Teaching” course (CCTE 50000), which engages with a range of literature on teaching and learning and helps graduate students to develop a philosophy of teaching statement and a course of their own design. The CCT also offers Teaching Certificate programs aimed at supporting graduate students and postdocs as they develop their approach to teaching. Completion of these certificate programs includes attendance at workshops and seminars on teaching, practice and feedback on teaching, and the documentation of those teaching experiences through the creation of a teaching portfolio.
