The Chicago Center for Teaching offers the following types of consultation appointments for graduate students and postdocs who would like individual feedback on teaching related documents: teaching statement consultations, teaching portfolio consultations, course design/syllabus consultations, and teaching position/fellowship cover letter consultations. You can sign up for these appointments through Symplicity by logging into the GRAD Gargoyle herePlease read the details below to ensure that you have the necessary information and any required materials prepared in advance. Required materials

• For a Teaching Statement Consultation: Please read O'Neal, Meizlish and Kaplan's "Writing a Statement of Teaching Philosophy for the Academic Job Search" (downloadable in the right hand sidebar) and upload a draft teaching statement 24 hours prior to your appointment. 

• For a Teaching Portfolio Consultation: Please upload draft documents 24 hours prior to your appointment. We strongly recommend you attend the Seminar and Workshop on Teaching Portfolios before scheduling a consultation.

• For a Course Design/Syllabus Consultation: Please upload a draft syllabus 24 hours prior to your appointment.

• For a Teaching Position/Fellowship Cover Letter Consultation: Please upload a draft cover letter 24 hours prior to your appointment. We strongly recommend that you meet with a Career Counselor in UChicagoGRAD before this meeting. 

General Teaching Advice 

We also offer consultations on general teaching advice or for more information about the CCT and its programs. These consultations will be with our Program Coordinator, Katie Krywokulski, or with our graduate assistant, Chalcey Wilding, who is also a senior Teaching Consultant at the Center.

Consultations with Joseph Lampert (josephlampert@uchicago.edu) will take place in Wieboldt Hall 314.

Consultations with Kiki Zissimopoulos (zissimopoulos@uchicago.edu) will take place in Wieboldt Hall 316.

Consultations with Chandani Patel (patelc@uchicago.edu) will take place in Gates-Blake 132.

Consultations with Katie Krywokulski (katiekrywo@uchicago.edu) will take place in Harper 307A.

Consultations with Chalcey Wilding (wildingc@uchicago.edu) will take place in Gates-Blake 102.

Symplicity Scheduling Instructions

Login to GRAD Gargoyle (https://grad-uchicago-csm.symplicity.com/) and click on the “Student/Alumni” user icon.

Once on the home page, follow these steps: 

To schedule a Advising Appointment, go to Calendar > Counseling Appointment > Request Appointment > Select the appropriate TYPE of appointment (Teaching Portfolio, Teaching Statement, General Teaching Advice, etc.) > Select the date range to which you are available >  Select the time range > Select the available counselor >  Select the days you are availble > Hit “Refine Results” and the counselor’s availability will show up on the right side.

General Troubleshooting Tips: 

Please attempt once more login to GRAD Gargoyleby clicking on the “Student/Alumni” user icon.

Once on the home page, follow these steps: 
To Schedule a Advising Appointment go to Calendar > Counseling Appointmen t> Request Appointment
Select the appropriate “TEACHING” appointment topic you’d like to discuss
Select the available counselor(s)
Hit “Refine Results”
The counselors availability will show up on the right side of the screen. Click name, click “Submit Request”
